Membership in Juniorettes gives a young woman the opportunity to work with community leaders, other volunteer organizations, and members of her own club. A young woman will learn to develop leadership skills by planning and carrying out projects in a variety of areas. Past Juniorettes have found that their volunteer experience has given them an edge when applying for jobs and to colleges. Most importantly membership in a Juniorette Club gives a young woman the opportunity to increase her self-esteem through helping others. Juniorettes are proud to raise money and donate funds and needed goods to the Southbury Fuel Bank, Food Bank and Needy Fund as well as The St. Vincent DePaul Shelter in Waterbury, Animals for Life in Middlebury and many other community organizations. Recent fundraisers include such children’s events as “The Halloween Happening”, “Kids Carnival” and “Happy Noon Year”. Each year, Juniorettes offer Crafts for Kids at the SWC’s annual Fall Fine Arts Festival and dress as elves and reindeer at the SWC’s “Cookies with Santa”, a fundraiser for the Region 15 Perpetual Fund. Most recently, Juniorettes raised $1,000 through “Hearts for Haiti, selling heart charm necklaces for UNICEF to support emergency relief efforts to help children affected by the January earthquake. Juniorettes is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Annual dues are $17 along with an $8 fee for a membership t-shirt. Juniorettes generally meets the third Friday of the month. Meeting locations may vary. Juniorettes are advised and organized by two members of the Southbury Women’s Club and supported by their parents and guardians. For additional information, please contact Juniorettes’ Co-Chairman, Fran Tepperman or Eva Biereder via e-mail at southburyjuniorettes@yahoo.com.
