Tickets are $35 and all proceeds will benefit the CT chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. INDULGE FOR A CURE A HUGE SUCCESS!!!
Between February’s snowstorms, Artisan Food Store, 760A Main St. South, bustled after hours when most Southbury Main Street stores had already closed for the evening. Owners, Tom & Sally Camm of Southbury, were host to Southbury Women’s Club’s benefit Indulge for a Cure. The two hour event raised nearly a thousand dollars for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It was evident people were having fun with the chatter and laughter heard throughout this informative evening. Except, of course, for when Piper Beatty, a 28 year old lawyer from New York City with Cystic Fibrosis, spoke about waiting for her impending double lung transplant at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital- then people listened closely, reminded of why they were gathered there that cold evening.
The evening featured tastings of both savory and sweet cocktails made with eaux-de-vie distilled and donated by Westford Hills Distillers of Ashford, CT. Cocktails were expertly paired with all natural, handcrafted, small batch artisanal cheese and chocolate. The menu, created by Sommelier Sally Camm, featured such delicacies as a chevre with black pepper and Middle Eastern roasted vegetable bruschetta, a goat cheese frittata and a handmade cheesecake drizzled with strawberry lavender sauce. Twenty guests received a gift of a bottle of wine generously donated by Lake Wine & Spirits of Southbury.
Southbury Women’s Group hosts Italian Comedy Wedding Dinner
The Southbury Women’s Club will present a Dillstar Production of “Joey & Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding”, the smash-hit, original interactive dinner theater show, Saturday, March 6, at the Crowne Plaza in Southbury. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by the newlyweds’ reception dinner and performance at 7 p.m. and Silent Auction winners announced at 10 p.m.
Participants at this fundraiser will be guests at an anything-but-traditional Italian wedding. Club members promise you’ll dance, you’ll sing, you’ll eat. You’ll laugh yourself silly with two of the craziest Italian families you’ll ever meet.
The scripted comedy is a spoof on a traditional Italian wedding. This long-running production incorporates ad-libbing, audience participation and lots of interaction with the guests.
Italian tunes play on as Rocco, an usher, suspiciously “makes his rounds;” Maria and her dad, Mr. Cavatelli, dance the wedding waltz; and Joey’s ex-girlfriend shows up at the reception. The plot swirls as dancing, eating and laughing all contribute to the campy climactic wedding celebration.
Tickets for cocktail hour, dinner, dancing and the performance are $55 per person plus cash bar. Table reservations are available. Tickets can be purchased at Southbury Kitchens in Union Square or by calling Lorie at 203-264-4800. All proceeds will benefit charitable causes supported by the Southbury Women's Club.
This event is sponsored by Richard H. Grayson, Ph.D., Pediatric Neuropsychologist and The Body’s Wisdom, CranioSacral Therapy and Sensorimotor Tutoring, 33 Bullet Hill, Southbury.

BACKPACKS 2010! When the last day of school finally comes, parents are thrilled to be “taking a break” from the school year hustle and bustle, but that is exactly when Southbury Women’s Club (SWC) starts getting ready for the first day of school in the fall. Before the start of school, the club will stuff about seventy backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies for local Southbury children in need. This year, Southbury Business Association and Bearingstar Insurance have graciously agreed to cover a portion of the expense for this project. SWC is hoping the residents of Southbury will be generous with their contributions to cover the remaining supplies. Currently there are jars at cash registers in local stores, including Southbury Food Center and South Britain Country Store. Please keep an eye open and when you see one of the jars remember that no amount is too small! It all adds up for a good cause. SWC is also seeking sponsors for this worthwhile cause. If you or your business is interested in contributing, or if you would like more information, please contact Christina at 203-627-3880. Donations for this project in any amount are always welcome and can be sent directly to Southbury Women’s Club, ATTN: Backpacks,
